There’s a lot going on here, like most days. But today is especially special and the girls were so sweet celebrating their brothers. This is a crazy, messy and wild ride but I’m so glad these are the kiddos on it with us.
Happy 2nd Birthday boys! We shook things up and took them out for breakfast at The Friendly Toast this morning and it was such a fun experience. Well, as fun as eating in a restaurant with two toddlers can be, but it was a nice change to be able to focus on just them while the girls were at school. We’re taking them to Sesame Place to really celebrate big once the weather warms up a bit so we just did a small placeholder celebration earlier today. More sappy posts to come tomorrow but for now, just breathing a sigh of relief that we made it it TWO with TWO. 🍀🍀
We’re finally beginning to re-emerge as a family now that temps are warming and the sun is showing itself more and I have to say, a weight has lifted. It is so overdue. Winter with twins, in this Covid-riddled world is seriously tough, man. I don’t have any regrets about skiing earlier this winter, but a few years ago, I swore we would travel somewhere warm and sunny in January or February and I’m going to publicly proclaim it here and now: we are going to follow through next year because the last 12 weeks have been a slog. I snapped this on a rare, whole family Feb outing last month, for Valentine’s Day ice cream with the kids, but I’m sharing now so I will truly *remember* the challenge it was to exist with littles at home while sickness raged constantly this winter. Covid, and flu, and RSV and pneumonia and just plain old, run of the mill colds. Even I got Covid AGAIN, after so carefully avoiding crowds, and gatherings, and masking in grocery stores. 🙄 But, I digress. What I want to remember when I look back at this moment is that life with littles right now, for us, is a constant shuffling of priorities and there is zero balance on any given day, and that’s OK. The older girls are going stir crazy and need to get out? But we can’t risk indoor stuff, so bundle the boys into the stroller and we’ll do X. Boys need mama’s full attention, nursing or whatnot? Emilia, can you read a book to your sister, and we will stay up a little late and do something special. It’s exhausting day to day, but these years are so short. We’ll have an 8 year old soon, and twin 2-year olds, and later this summer, an absolutely lovely 6-year old. I remind myself daily that I’m going to blink and wish for these days of chaos and exhaustion and messes, and feeling needed, but for now, I’m focused on gratitude that spring is coming. At least we’re due for some sunshine so we can get outside more comfortably altogether. But… please send me your recommendations for family-friendly, warm-weather destinations because it’s never too early to start planning 🤣 ✈️ 🌴
One year. We lost my dad exactly one year ago today. It still doesn’t feel real. Thank you to everyone who called and messaged. It meant more than I can express. It’s so strange how grief has tinted the last two months in particular. My dad went into the hospital the week of Christmas, 2021.
