Redefining our style at home

30 Sep

honing in our your home styleI love being at home, I admit it. Our apartment is filled with beautiful things we love; mementos from trips together, bookcases piled high with favorites (including one devoted to cookbooks), and a lot of entertainment-specific servery and decor like our wedding china and my silver tea sets. Home goods are my weakness.

Since we’ve started to get more serious about buying a house though, I’ve been looking at our furniture with a more critical eye. We have a couple great pieces from family mixed in with a few (more than I’d like to admit) IKEA buys, and a smattering of finds from antique and consignment stores like our wine rack/bar. (And let’s be real, I think I’d probably die without the home sections of T.J Maxx, Marshals, and the holy land: HomeGoods.)  But it never dawned on me that none of it was really “working” until I started imagining filling up an actual house. That we own.

On a break from learning about adjustable rate mortgages, PMI, and just how crazy property taxes are, I put together a Pinterest inspiration board and culled ideas down to the above. It’s just a starting point, but it has really helped to force my focus. In the last week alone, I found a gorgeous Parsons-esque console table that would be gorgeous in a foyer and a brass sculpture very similar to one above. And while shopping at the SoWa market in Boston yesterday morning, I joked with Brian about buying a Sukhothai Buddha sculpture similar to the one in the picture above. But I think I’ll wait on that. Maybe we’ll eventually make it to Thailand someday. It would make a great memento, right?

Baby style

21 Apr

With so many pregnant friends, it’s not hard to get excited imagining our own turn. I ASSURE you there isn’t a bun in the oven, but will confess to culling together baby-related nursery inspiration. And there may be a list of baby names we like saved on my phone. When the time comes, I think we’ll be ready.  30ff16f7d1f2596584e4fa47828cf4c3butterfly mobile envy + black and white portraits amore
